The Canary Islands are comprised of seven islands, namely, Tenerife, Gomera, La Palma, Hierro, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. These islands are then subdivided into 2 provinces, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas, for administrative purposes. The first four islands are grouped under Santa Cruz while the last three are under Las Palmas province. Many adore the Canary Islands as the tourist's tropical paradise or a holiday haven among the lush green vegetation growing in fertile volcanic soil with lovely beaches and warm sunshine. Tourists and locals flock to this paradise by the thousands all year round, calling them the -˜Fortunate Islands'.
